I can run a mile now

Postby Richard on May 22nd, 2009, 10:15 pm

Years ago, if I ran even a block, I would get these terrible pains in my knee the next day. I went to a doctor who did an mri, etc. And was diagnosed with a torn miniscus tear (sp).

I was going to get it operated on, but then I went to another knee specialist at at university medical center and was told that even if it was operated on, he couldn't guarantee that it wouldn't get worse.

Anyway fast forward to today, my son who is 10, doesn't have much stamina. So we have been slowly increasing up to a mile We run every 2 days in order to let our bodies rest on the day off.

For the last week or so, we have been running 1 mile.

What is interesting to me is I seem OK. No real pain in my knee.

Related to the operation for my herniated disk 5 years ago? I think not. But could be nerve pain related. You never know.

But regardless I am happy for any blessing I get.

Great news. I would like to start running too since it is free and so many people seem to love it. I will have to take a slow gradual approach like you since I'm really out of shape. I hope to be posting similar news by the end of the summer.

Awesome Richard!! Umm...I'll pass on RUNNING a mile though, I'll stick to walking the mile...or riding a bike the mile. Why run when you can walk or ride?
Aint no, rhyme or reason, no complicated meanin'
Aint no, need to overthink it, let go laughin'
Life dont go, quite like we planned it, we try so hard to understand it
Irrefutable, indisputable, absoluteable, totally beautiful fact is, Psssh
It happens...

nice... :-) i myself startet up running yesterday after at least 1 months break. I ran 5 km (dont know how much that is, we only use metric system in dk) - huh that was hard, need to get back in shape i gues.

I signed up for a 5 km run next friday with some colleges from work, so need to in shape until then, hope i succeed.

Biking trips can be good to, but i would prefer going longer than one mile, 10 mile seems more apropiate, but with all the fasciculations and atrophy it can be hard heh :-P

Keep up the god spirit Richard :-)
