Adductor Pollicis Muscle Pain

Postby Pascal35 on May 2nd, 2015, 2:43 pm

Hi All,

Around 3 months now i have a very strange pain between my thumb and index finger muscle (left).
The pain is more severe when i wake up and try to grip or when i try to hold my body with my hand.
I feel the pain in the muscle and sometime radiates in the bottom of the index finger.
So far i haven't noticed any weakness etc. but i am very concerned that this might lead to weakness.

Does anyone else has something similar or can someone give some advice here?
There might be a chance that i have injured this area in the past due to the strength tests i always do BUT its already 3 months now and the pain is still the same...

Not that anyone seems to care but the pain is not cramp-type pain. Its rather sharp and reflects in the front side of my left arm between the Index finger and thumb and sometimes more inside the arm below the index finger.

It seems that nobody responds so i decided to use this forum more like a diary so i can come back and check my posts... No more interest in here. I am very sorry to say that.

I feel pain in different muscles. It's hard to confirm with certainty the cause. What I do know is that NSAIDS have reduced my twitching.

Hi Pascal,

I have this pain on both sides. Not evertime but it is constantly coming back. My method to release: accupuncture in this muscle to release tension. My ostheopath says this muscle is related to colon in traditional chinese medicine...

Antother question...Why are you expecting immediate response? It is a very specific problem and so it can take some time of someone has the same symtpom and reading this...

I don't have pain there, but I do have it in my palm side thumb thenar muscle. After all of the stuff I've read about thumbs and joints and hands, it sounds like you could have an inflamed tendon or joint. If this were my problem, I would: 1) wait to see how long it lasts, if it stays or gets worse, go to the doctor and ask for an ultrasound or something 2) celebrate because it's not weakness and pain like that points away from what many of us on here fear.

Thanks guys for your responses,

German,
Sorry for being too emotional but this whole story is really changing me. I am becoming too vulnerable since everything that takes place in my body i worry if it is an ALS symptom.
I have to check maybe is some kind of a tendon issue. It really worries me that this is the way the weakness starts...
An additional one is the phlegm and mucus after eating. I have GERD for many years but especially the last 4-5 days 30min after eating i have too much phlegm and coughing. Reading similar stories that have lead to ALS brings back my panic.

I really don't know how to get over my fears.. Surely getting more and more information seems that it doesn't help at all...

Sorry you are scared and worried. You are not alone. *hug* Also, I've read many stories of ALS and none said that a pain in their hand turned to weakness. The stories I read never mentioned pain.

Dear Pascal,
I can understand that completely. I don't know how long it lasts for you. My story last more than 2,5 year for now..I can promise. This hurting muscle is not a sign of..As I told you, I have that regularly. It comes and it goes. Like everything. There is almost no symptom which I did not have. Including complete weak feeling. This I do have more and more often. But once my hand got stuck, it does not the other day...I had the mucus problem lasting about 2 month....then suddenly it went away. I am convinced it was from the muscles. But it did not stay...So it cannot be MND. That is the logic I try...

Hi everyone and thanks for your responses...
Had an ultrasound yesterday on the left hand, especially on the area i am feeling the pain for so long.
They found i have a tendonitis, liquid on the base of the left index joint. So the pain comes from that side.
They also confirmed that there is no atrophy in either of the thenar muscles.
