Tongue and swallowing now post nasal drip

Postby LKP1231 on October 31st, 2014, 5:59 am

In the past week I reported my tongue doesn't feel right like it's too big and my swallowing feels wrong. My tongue is always tense and pushed against my teeth. Mouth is dry. Now I have post nasal drip that won't clear.
I know that *** doesn't start in your limbs and your throat all at once, it's either or. This has to be anxiety related? Zoloft is what I started last week and post nasal drip isn't a side effect.

I also gagged like crazy in the shower when I got up for several minutes. This is freaking me out.

I wish you well. Sometimes it feels like God enjoys watching our and others' symptoms, to do nothing at all to soothe them.

I have Chronic Obstructive Sleep Apnea, so I have some explanation for the post nasal drip. As for the tongue, if my cervical spine ends up being fine, then I can't explain its behavior.

It's like I have to concentrate on swallowing and it feels wrong. I can swallow but my tongue doesn't feel like it's doing it right.

Swallowing seems better but my tongue still is so wide I can't keep it off my teeth and now it's painful where the marks are

Sounds like you have bruxism. When my anxiety flares up I often clench my jaw in my sleep and will push my tongue into my teeth causing a scalloped tongue appearance. I even experienced the "wide tongue" symptom as well. I attribute this to being hyper-vigilant over my symptoms, and to my tongue being slightly swollen from thrusting it in to my teeth.

Thanks John I hope that's what it is. I don't know if that would make my swallowing seem off?

You sound like a mirror image of me. I have a lot of swallowing issues, like I usually have to swallow twice and clear my throat constantly. Sometime it feels like it is hard to initiate a swallow. I really don't feel stressed but I know I am. Stress exacerbates these issues. Gerd and post nasal drip can explain these symptoms. People in our situations become hyper-aware of anything that seems to be off in their bodies, and subsequently we attribute this to an invariably fatal illness.
