Ok I'm scared now

Postby LKP1231 on October 6th, 2014, 4:49 pm

So I have my constant all over twitching for 8 weeks. My emg shows devervation in each limb but rules out ALS because he says he can see where it's coming from and it's all from back issues, carpal tunnel, etc. I feel nothing but twitching and a sort of sore thigh. I have no umn issues and he tells me a certain separate nerve test proved that. I have no clinical weakness. He doesn't believe in benign twitching and blames my back. None of this makes sense! How is it not als? And my twitching is definitely getting worse. More in arms and hands too

It's not ALS if not all the factors are present. You have to break the anxiety barrier, sometimes in draconian ways. I won't say how because I'll get chewed on this board. Trust your Doctor or find a different one. Don't look for another doctor, if he too will not be trusted. Regards.

Thank you for responding. I'm very nervous. I think I need the second opinion. I'm not sure why this dr didn't share all the facts nor do I get why he's still convinced it's my back. There is no pain anywhere.

The brain could be covered with tumors, for example, and there would be no pain, just functional changes. Not all nerve issues involve pain.

He diagnosed me with radiculopathy (sp) but that comes with pain.

You mean there isn't always pain? They seem to use pain to distinguish between radiculopathy and ***.

Pain is associated with radiculopathy? If so, I am sure there are exceptions. For example, not all migraines hurt.

Pretty much that. You thought you had ALS even though you don't actually have any ALS symptoms. So you had an EMG. The doctor said you don't have ALS. So you took that as a sign that you do have ALS, despite the fact that you still don't actually have any ALS symptoms.

You are taking some incredible leaps in logic to get to where you are now. You need to step back and take a look at this.
BFS FAQ:
1. No, that's not bulbar
2. No, the location doesn't matter
3. Yes, we have all had that symptom
4. No, you're not the exception
5. No, that's not ominous
6. No, you don't need an EMG
7. Yes, you will be fine

Hi,
I also had an EMG which was not clean. It was taken just in one limb - with one exeption. My right foot was ok, but just peeked once. The other limb was not ok and I am almost sure, they would have find more if they wanted to. Here in Germany they are very reluctant with EMG if the person is scared anyway, not to poor oil in the fire.
There has to be a certain constellation of signs in the EMG to point to MND. Maybe there was not that combination. In addition the doc can find out the source of the denervation. And in your case it looks like it was your back. But I also would get me a second opinion just for the peace of your mind..

I'm surprised with all that denervation that there is no weakness anywhere so far. He didn't say how bad and I'm not going to ask. Strange. I have PT tomorrow. I didn't know they could really tell from emg where the things were originating. Now I just have to hope the specialist concurs. Wish I was strong enough to not go there bc now I fear worse news again.
