lower leg spasms - circulatory

Postby Yuliasir on August 21st, 2014, 9:04 am

Today went for US for my leg veins/arteries due to persistent edema I have on my left leg, and it was found that I have slight disfunction of vein valves. When I mentioned cramps on this side predominantly, the doctor told Ah yes, weak veins love that - they make you crampy.

so before freaking ut of leg cramps one may first think about circulatory reasons rather than neurological ones (as valve disfunction is very common, especially with the age or sitting habits)

Hi Yuliasir,

I am sure that is true. I also had persistent leg swelling which led to having ultrasounds. At the end of the three hour procedure, my doctor pronounced "your veins are perfect. You have lymphedema." I had not yet started twitching, but this is what set it off I think! This was the beginning of extreme stress as the next thing to do was go searching for cancer, the odds that I had cancer were far greater than that I had a hereditary form of lymphedema. It took months to settle this and get into the proper specialists. After being cleared of cancer, the twitching started almost right away. Then it became difficult to separate the events in my mind, I thought the swelling may be due to some atrophy because muscles in the leg are what pump the lymph fluid out. It still bothers me to think about it and the connection there might be. I hope you have some peace of mind about the swelling and also some kind of resolution for it. I have to wear comression socks every day, elevate my feet every night and as often as possible as well as a few other things to manage it. I am lucky it is mild and if I tend to it, one would never even know.

All the best to you our saint of the bfsboard. xx
