Twitch, aches,cramp, pain- 8months

Postby Sadface on June 29th, 2014, 3:45 pm

I'm annoyed with myself for having a huge step back. I think my trigger was coming of antidepressants to soon. To which I am now 5 days back into them.
28yrs, long term worrier......developed twitches.
This was October 2013. Mainly foot arch- type u see but don't feel. Along with ones I felt!
I had funny sensations in my left leg at the same time!
December time my anxiety eased- twitches widespread continued but I didn't give it much thought.
My funny leg sensations continued!
I also had a tingle feeling on left shoulder blade. Last a few mins and went!

My blip is due to my leg still being an issue, but I have other symptoms:
I easily cramp in my foot. I feel the twitches when I place my hand on my foot.
I get the same on my thumb pad- left again! It's smaller than the right but possibly due to right being dominant hand.

Next- shoulder issues. Tingles continue intermittent but now my actual shoulder can. Be painful on movement. Feels like pulled a muscle but I've bit done anything?!?
All this is left sided!
My fingers feel stiffer especially when cold!

I haven't ever been to a neuro: GP wants me to take medication for anxiety longer first.

I just can't seem to think of any other explanation but MND!
It's ruining my life!!!

I've freaked myself by reading MND stories for younger adults and I can see how my symptoms are similar.
Can my mind possibly create this.

Please help

I have a feeling this isn't common due to views but no comments. May have to re visit GP.

Sadface,

I believe I responded to one of your posts sometime ago, but I am not totally certain. Like you, I am eight (almost nine) months into this ordeal. Since then, I have twitched, cramped , and had pain throughout my body. Most of the pain, twitching, and cramping is confined to my right side but I have experienced symptoms everywhere. EMG at five weeks and another at four and one half months came out normal- due for a follow up first of September. Widespread brisk reflexes but no weakness.

My GP had a lot of info. and experience with BFS and put me on Sertraline (Zoloft) back in January. Antidepressants have not helped twitching/ pain/ cramping at all. As a matter of fact, they made me void of any expression and emotion and left me with a myriad of side effects that are less than pleasant.

Of the two neuros. I saw, (same practice- different specialists) my primary said the chances of it being ominous are very, very, low. She made a gesture of zero with her hands as she explained the chances.

I understand your anxiety and what you are going through; you are not alone in your struggle. This truly has been the most difficult and trying time of my entire life and I sure you share the same sentiments. I keep thinking about a quote from Churchill that has really resonated with me during this time: "When you're going through hell, keep going".

Keep going and take care,
Christina

Thanks Christina.
Do you get aches/pains that last along time (constant.)
Do you happen to get any joint issues?

I find it totally draining. Because I've never been to neuro I still have that over whelming worry it's MND.
I feel breathless
The joints in my finger is soar on bending

Bla bla

Sadface,

The pain that I have is almost constant- there are brief times that it subsides. The only trigger I can point to with the pain is that it does increase when I have been on my feet and/ or using my arms a lot. The pain is mostly in my upper right arm, right leg, and sometimes in my upper left arm.

I had a visit with my GP today to re-up my prescription for Sertraline (going to change that one) and he asked if the antidepressant had helped with the twitching, cramping, and I informed him that it had not. He is familiar with BFS as he twitches too sometimes. I would be curious to know if anyone on this forum has benefited from antidepressants- I certainly haven't. It's funny, when this whole thing started last October I always had the feeling that this would never go away. I am starting to think that maybe my intuition was a premonition. Such a strange thing this is!

I forgot to answer your question- no joint issues just twitching, cramping, and pain that is similar to bruises throughout my body.

Hey SadFace, you and I have talked about this. Has your doctor done an x-ray of your cervical spine? I was almost angry when my doctor suggested it, but I was surprised to discover that there is quite a bit of disc degeneration, nerve impingement due to large bone spurs, etc. Sometimes, it's not just "one" easy answer. It's anxiety, combined with your spine being out of whack, combined with poor posture at work / while sleeping. Today at work, the pain in my left arm (running from the shoulder down the bicep and all the way into my hand) has been pretty much non-stop. The bottoms of my feet burn and twitch (especially the left one, so I'm asking for a lumbar xray as well). I can assure you that my pain is completely unrelated to my BFS (which as you know has been around 17 years) -- but I DO believe the BFS is exacerbated by the pain. For the last 16 years, I thought I had fibromyalgia... now they're telling me it could be symptoms of spinal issues. So it's very rare that there is one, simple reason. BTW, didn't you already have an EMG / neuro visit? I could have sworn you did. Also, do you have a very stressful or physical career? Hugs

Well I'm taking the plunge and seeing a neuro monday 8/4. My brother is going with me for moral support and I'm grateful for that. Tonight I was preparing dinner and my left bicep was aching and twitching ...along with my feet and calves. Ive taken a week of short term disability from work to get this testing done, otherwise I'll allow this worry to follow me into my birthday and the holidays. I feel like my central nervous system is in overdrive, and my nerve endings are inflamed / irritated. It was getting to the point I couldn't focus on my work, so I'm no good to anyone like this. Its a scary step, but after 8 months of *** you'd have some form of visible disability. Speak with a spouse, friend, relative and get the appt you need to be done with this. I'm around if you need to talk. Hugs

Hi,

I wake up this message from the past...

After 9 months of pain and cramps on the right side of my body (right hand & fingers, right arm & shoulder, right leg & foot), i have, since one week, the same pain and cramps on my left leg. I'm going to the neuro for my first EMG tommorow but i'm not too worried, I'm almost sure it will be normal.

But it is difficult to stand the pain every day and every night, even if i'm not moving, after several months.

Anyone else with the same symptoms ? I understood with "BFS in a nutshell" that pain is not directcly related to BFS but muck like fybromyalgia or BCFS or short fiber neuropathy,...

PS : Sorry for my English

Rages,
I don't post too often on here but I was curious about your recent emg results. The symptoms you posted sound identical to mine- I have twitching, pain, and cramping mostly on my right side since October of 2013. I've had three clean EMGs since then. Anyway, wanted you to know that you're not alone and I hope you are doing well.

Ah ah, thanks for my english Christina, I'm not sure it is great but i'll do my best to be understandable !

Regarding my EMG, it is...drumroll...obviously all clean ! According to my neuro the pain is not related to BSF but fibromyalgia or every anxiety problems have the same origins, our brain ! According to her, if one EMG is clean you don't need a second or third, you can find every neurologic diseases at the very beginning with that king of exam.

I'm doing better since the EMG, the pain is still here but now I'm totally sure that is not something nasty so I'm ok. We've got to deal with this for months !
