Gabapentin and alcohol intolerance ?

Postby Mario313 on May 25th, 2014, 10:10 pm

I've been taking gabapentin (300mg x1 a day) for about 2 months now for my twitches/spasms and some neuropathic pain.
I do feel a bit better with this medication, however....I used to be able to enjoy a drink here and there, but now I can barely finish one before I feel like I'm wasted.

I was at dinner yesterday and was drinking a pint of cider.
I only got about halfway through the drink when my friend yelled "are you drunk!?!?!" I said "OMG. I feel like it. I can't drink this anymore."
This has happened a few times now and I don't like it.
I've never been a huge drinker but I do like to enjoy a drink or two at dinner or a party once in a while.
Are these days now behind me?

Any one else notice an intolerance to alcohol with gabapentin?

Thanks.

You really shouldn't combine alcohol with gabapentin, that is one of the possible side effects.

Mario, if I drink a glass of wine in combination with my gabapentin, it is too much, I feel a little bit drunken. So I think it isn`t really a good combination. I am on 300 mg per day, but it still doesn`t work.
