Twitches when tapping on it?

Postby Brummer on May 1st, 2014, 10:15 am

Hello,

I am anxious because I can provoke twitches on both hands by tapping on the muscle. Is that a bad sign? I read that twitches caused by ALS can be provoked that way. Did anyone of you experienced the same thing? That would calm me down a bit.

Thanks

Yes, its common for BFSers to induce twitching like that. I remember answering this exact question several times over the past few months. A few members asked their neuros and none were concerned. Yes, it is true that ALS patients also have a period of hyper excitability, but we BFSers have it for a different reason: because we have benign BFS, which is also characterized by hyperexcited nerves. It is almost to be expected.
