neee, definitely not regarding jaw jerks.
I can not name exactly the fellows, but at least two or three times I had seen people complaining for extra active jaw muscles.

also we often complain for cheek/tongue bites (which is also due to hyperactive muscles), I remember i had a whole three week or so biting session, almost every day :((

search the site for 'jaw', TMJ or similar keywords, surely you will clarify that you are not alone.

Leg weakness

Postby Red Raider on April 6th, 2014, 7:19 pm

Today I would get up and walk around and it felt like I couldn't feel my right foot it was a weird sensation and I'm a little freaked out. I was able to still do my street test but my right ankle felt like it was going to give out and my foot felt like it wasn't there. Does this sound familiar to anybody I hope so cause I'm freaking. I mean my whole right leg feels like it is going to just give out on me just really started today. Any input would greatly be appreciated thanks guys.

Well, a bit not clear what exactly had happened.
Did you lay down before it? Sit down tucking your leg under the body? if so it might be just a sleeping leg, it happens.
when you started to walk, you were able to walk normally? Did you have any visible foot drop (in other words, was your foot dragging when walking or not?). Did you limp? Was this feeling temporary?

Practically good rule of thumb invented by ALS people is FAILING NOT FEELING, in other words, paralysed muscle fails to fucntion, in other cases (like in BFS) person just feels like muscle is going to give out. Which seem to be your case.

If you search using 'give out' as a keywords, you will see that many fellows report that feeling of being weak and 'ready to give out', however they seldom report that in a words like you did ('like it was not there'), that is why I asked several extra questions in the beginning.

Usually in our case it is a sensory feeling (paresthesia), or error in the central processing of the signals coming from your leg.
If you still can walk even having your leg numb or 'absent', it means that all systems in your body do their work just the 'central processor' is a bit out of order, which happens in the beginning of BFS quite often.

but paresthesias itself could be a sign of nerve pinchment, circulatory trouble or local neuropathy, and if they would be persistent, it would be worth to bring them todoctor of course.

It was weird and it still feels that way right now. I got up early today took a shower and when I put my shoes on my right foot felt weird and fat feeling felt stiff too no pins or needles. Made me limp a little no toes drag just a strange sensation like I've been sitting on my foot for awhile now it aches a little I was still able to cut the yard and I am still able to walk and exercise but it's still here kinda freaking out. Everytime I get up from laying down it feels like it is asleep but I haven't been laying on it weird.

most probably nerve pinched. It happens. but I also experienced feeling of tense and numb foot at the top of it for a few weeks last fall but it eventually went away.

Hey how are you I'm still feeling the symptoms but not as bad though it gets bad when I put on my shoes and it's only on my right foot but like you I sat there and I feel it more on top of the foot than anywhere else. Make ankle feels weak but Im still walking fine for now my foot is sore and my right hand is weak like my pinch grip and grip in general. Sometimes it feels weak and sometimes it hurts in my bicep then sometimes I feel like I have good strength so I don't know hon I guess and hope this is all BFS or in my head I haven't had a lot of twitches though I guess is a good thing. My right shoulder has been aching so I might of done something who knows. Thanks for your support you have been a good help.

Well, if this bpthers you, better to check again withthe doctor (do clinical exam), but I had the same on LEFT SIDE - strange feeling at the top of the foot, especially in the shoes, feeling of weaker grip in the left hand etc. most of my troubles are tended to left side of the body (left eye sight is worse, more pains in the left mammal gland, sorry for details, etc.).

SO BFS really can play that games, but again, if you feel it gets worse, go and do clinicalexam. it is usually enough. Transient pains are also in the picture.

by the way I am almost sure you test your right side vigorously. So do not be surprised it is sore.

My feet feel better but I have another question for you guys I'm so sorry to always be like this but I think I'm getting better. In my calves the right twitches way more than the left like 5x more. I can see the twitches but not feel them is that normal? I mean I can feel them sometimes but when I hold my leg up I can see them but can't feel them I was wondering if this is normal and if they are more pronounced in one than the other. I know Yuliasir you said yours are on your left so I was just wondering.

Just so you know...I performed a jaw jerk on my wife and eldest daughter...both had an impressive jaw jerk reflex.

Hey Houston,

Are you seeing Dr. Daragh Heitzman at Texas Neurology? He is the best ALS specialist in Dallas.
Please believe him if he tells you he does not see clinical neurological weakness - he sees so many people with ALS.
I saw him and he was a great great doctor and basically told me whatever is bothering my leg/foot/ankle not neurological based.
I know its hard to believe, but he said it was most likely BFS/Anxiety/Stress for me.

Hey guys support worried this morning I woke my right ankle right where the crease is and on the outside of ankle right above the ball going up the outside of my calve. I've been getting a constant twitch but it's not big you can't see it you can only feel it. It's so fast and fine it almost feels like a vibration but it's not it driving me crazy because it is a real fine twitch. My ankle feels weak but I'm able to walk it just feels weird. Then I'm getting a pain in the back go my left calve like a dual ache comes and goes is this familiar with BFS or should I go in and get it looked at please help thanks?!

You've already had an EMG, and a full neuro work up by an MND specialist. Brother, you are good...right as rain. This consistent with BFS. I get this same thing.
