cathy's story

Postby cathy on November 6th, 2002, 12:52 am

i'm a 34 yr old f/m with benign fasciculations all over, started out with pins and needles 1.5 yrs ago, pins and needles, sharp pains in wrists, subsided 1 month later.,swallowing difficulities, certain foods getting stuck, pain in jaw/face,forearms,calves,fatigue,at times arms feel heavy.Muscle biopsy shows type 11 fibre atrophy(mild) and slight predominance of type 1 fibres.1st EMG normal,2nd EMG,showed irritibility in T8 paraspinal muscles, and single fasciculation in right vastus lateralis and medial gastrocnemius.3rd shows, mild abnormalities of irritibility with brief runs of positive sharp waves, but no definite active denervation and occasional complex repetitive discharges seen in the paraspinal muscles and vastus lateralis, motor unit potentials are normal as are recruitment and interference pattern, every test you name it have been done.Going for another EMG,swallowing test.I,m finding it hard to believe this is benign, neuro had said there was rare give way weakness in proximal arms, and mild weak neck flexion,3+ brisk reflexes, but still benign? cathy.[/b]
