Haha... I hear you loud and clear! I just realized the same thing about pressing my tongue against my teeth as did some others on the BFS chat room. I get your point. I'll stop. haha. -Matt

You guys are a million times more likely to die while driving and obsessing over your tongues in the rear view mirror than anything else.

I hate myself for this but it drives me crazy. Today I felt slight electrical impulses in the middle of my tongue. I ran to the mirror and open the mouth, with resting tongue. In the middle, there was a dimple that flickered every second, I could feel it quite well. No contraction of larger area..just small dimple. I am so sad, I just cannot accept this even after nearly 5 years with bodywide twitching. It is ruining my life, even though sometimes I feel I have beaten this..

Docen,
If that were an ominous twitch, I'd be in trouble. I get those everyday (see my videos). However, I know that they aren't. Lots of people on here get those types of twitches. I was just cleared by Mayo, do you think they would have missed something like that? We talked about tongue twitches while I was down there and they told me that they are not concerning. Please try to relax. Most of us on here are looking forward to being just 1 year in because that in itself is more reassurance that our muscles are just fine. But five years? You have to know by now that your problem is in your head, not in your tongue. -Matt

Same here. Just thinking about tongue-twitches again just ruined a small holiday for me :-(. I think we agree that rationally, there's not much to worry about. So why don't you show your twitches to a specialist and get an EMG? That usually helps me for a while...

Bobajojo, thanks..To be honest, my tongue has not twitched until 3,5 years after bodywide fasciculations. So I was scared it could be progression of something. Also your video showing their induction, these were not tongue fasciculations. Of course it can be another involuntary movement along with fasciculations, but these were not on the video. The only reliable way is to shoot them with tongue resting in the mounth.
I really appreciate your words and I wish I could accept that, its just..I do not know, every twitch there immediately induces anxiety...I have not gotten them in the middle until now..
twitcherHH: because I am too scared. If the found any abnormality, even very slight, I am sure I would not be able to go on..

My tongue has always been twitching like in that video twitcher HH showed, on and off flickering for hours in the middle of my tongue or at the sides. It has stopped now after I calmed down my nerves. I know you are a med student and people from the medical section absolutely deny and are almost mad if someone tells them that they have "mental issues" but: they way your anxiety strikes back over and over and they way you obsess with having ALS wit every new symptom after all this time leaves absolztely NO DOUBT that you have an enormous unerlying anxiety that should be treated by a professional. Sorry if you are mad now , but I think this is the only way you will be able to get rid of this. And I am not talking about getting rid of those twitches (there are multiple reasons that could cause that twitching, of course from you way of handling this I would bet that in your case it das to do with your basically messed up nerve system, but I am not a doctor...) , but getting rid of the way you ruin your life with that anxiety. Please tighten up your butt cheeks and make an appointment with a psychotherapist !! How long do you want to go on like this???????

chrissi, yeah, well the thing is that I am calm otherwise, I mean I can go days/weeks without any hint of anxiety. I do not believe I have ALS, if MND of some sort, than Kennedy would be more likely (male, nearly in 3rd decade, muscles to tire easily). To be honest, I would be happy for Kennedy as it does not shorten your life..
Do not get me wrong, I am not in anxiety attack..that usually lasts as long as the tongue twitching, it is like a conditioned reflex.
Chrissi, it does help me to hear I am not alone with these true fasciculations. Also you did feel and see those on the resting tongue, right? On TwitcherHH's video, his tongue was out, yet it was clearly visible. However, I usually see them only when its in the mounth.

I can describe mine as: I felt some strange tickling sensation in my mouth, as if someone was holding a battery against it. I had this for quite some says going on, until I had the idea to look for it. I know my tongue does all kinds of strange things wen I stick it out BUT I was resting it all calm at the bottom of my mouth and completely relaxed it. Then I opened my mouth and could see a tiny flickering right in the middle of my tongue, about the size of a short rice corn, on and off. I used to be able to induce those twitces by yelling with my kids or sucking in cold air or pressing my tongue hard against my gum. That bis all about my tongue twitching, and I know that Robynn and a lot of others here had it just the same way at the same location. It was taking place 80% right in the middle of my tongue, very rare on one of the edges of my tongue. With a lot of stress of caffeine I had up to 3 flickering spots at the same time going on.

Docen,
The video where I can induce my twitching is not the typical kind of tongue twitch for me. Most of my tongue twitches are just as you and Chrissi describe. Little "zaps" or flickers right in the middle of my tongue. If you look at the video in the first post of this thread, you can see the flicker in the upper right part of my tongue at the start of the video and then it happens in the middle and the lower left parts as well. Sometimes, I will also get a rapid fluttering on the sides of my tongue. My tongue twitches every single day. My entire body has been twitching for 10 months and they have found fasciculations in EVERY muscle they've EMG'd except my butt. I'm sure the tongue twitches are true fasciculations because why would they be any different than the twitches I'm getting in every other muscle? But, they never EMG'd my tongue. The Mayo clinic told me there was no reason to EMG my tongue because no abnormalities were found in my limbs and back. -Matt

Just replying to an old post. I was finally able to catch the fascics on the side of my tongue. When I say I feel "flickering" all over the sides, this is what it looks like. Look closely in the back on the side. At certain times like after drinking coffee or after exercise, I will get these appearing in multiple spots at the same time like on both sides and in the middle. I hate them more than any other twitch. It was so good to hear some veteran tongue twitchers say recently that their tongue fascics have calmed down a bit. I'm really hoping that mine calm down at some point. Most of the time I can feel them when they are happening but there are times when I can see them but not feel them. -Matt
