Ear twitching??

Postby sdibble on April 13th, 2004, 5:18 pm

I have a question for those of you who have said that you have had twitches in your ear. Could you please describe them for me? For the past three days I have felt 'something'. Am quite certain it is 'twitch related' b/c it is quick and it just has that familiar 'twitch feeling to it'. (I often find it so difficult to describe these feelings!) However, I had surgery on that ear and don't hear well out of it. It almost feels as if it is a very brief 'thump' but it is so much more 'internal' than most of my other twitches. Does thing sound familiar to anyone?
Thanks,
Steph

I have had an ear "twitch". It sounds like a thump or even like something just flew by me and barely missed my head...almost like a quick whoosh. I used to have it one day a week for several hours. Since I went to see a neuromuscular specialist and have been reassured, my anxiety level is much lower and I have not had the "twitch" for a few weeks.

There is a condition called palatal/middle ear myoclonus that can cause tinnitus (noise in the ear) that is often described as a "whoosh." This is a benign condition. I was sure this was all I had until I told a neurologist and she looked to see if my palate was twitching to confirm to my suspicion...it wasn't but she did notice tongue fasciculations. That just about put me off the deep end for a few weeks. It turns out I am totally healthy but the ear twitch definitely caused me some serious worry for a while.

In my case, it was completely benign and I have yet to discover a case in the literature that presented as an ear "twitch" and progressed to something serious. It is annoying but it almost certainly does not indicate anything you need to worry about.

ear

My ear does something. Not sure what it is. I twitched all over with panic attacks 12 years and it went away. The all over twitching came back this past Jan with panic attacks again BUT my ear has alwasys felt as if it has a butterfly stuckd down in my inner ear trying to get out. That is the best way I can describe it. I was always told I had eutachian tube dysfunction. I went to an ear doc about a month ago and didn't say a word to him about my muscle twitching and guess what he said? He said this is probably a muscle spasm. Sometimes I feel like I am walking sideways but have always assumed it was from an ear problem or anxiety. He wants to do tests to see what the cause is but I'm not in any hurry to get that down right now. I need to get thru this twitch scare first and get used to the anti depressant I am on before I worry about my ears. But now that he said it was probably a muscle spasm it makes me wonder if it's just not yet another part of my body twitching!
