Anyone for Shingles

Postby stevepaul on June 26th, 2007, 5:57 am

So for the last few days I've been feeling off colour, shivers, cold and achy. Then some areas of my skin became sensitive on my upper right side. Woke up this morning with a blister rash that spread from the right side of my chest round to my back. I kind of figured what it was but went to the Dr's anyway where my suspicions were confirmed - Shingles.

Brilliant, just what I need.

Steve,

I'm so sorry to hear that! My friends mother had that for a while and I know it can take a while to get past and be difficult to have. Well, at least it will take your mind off the twitching and cramping

Hope you're feeling better soon. Try to take it easy for a while.

Take care,

Angie

One symptom that can linger is Post herpetic neuralgia sometimes referred to as PHN. I seem to have an affinity for these 3 initials.

If they had a 'letter' lotto, I'd tell you to play them  Maybe you'd win the big prize!

Oh what a bummer, I nursed a lady a couple of years ago that had internal shingles apparently quite rare, it was mainly in the chest area and the pain was really bad .Dad had them as well but they only lasted a couple of weeks, so hopefully yours will be like that.
Anyway, now that I've told you the bad case scenario  I will wish you well.

Regards

Hey Steve, take lysine. It will help.

I had them years ago. Treated early they respond pretty well. Painful crap at times though.

Thanks for all your words and advice, it's appreciated.

My GP started me on a 7 day course of Aciclovir as soon as the rash appeared which has helped to minimise the spread.

In looking for a positive, then Gabapentin is often prescribed to treat neuralgia associated with shingles, in this respect I'm one step ahead as I've been on this medication for quite a while, but at this moment in time I still feel like "death warmed up"
