Some Holiday Perspective

A friend of mine was sharing that his wife was just diagnosed with a rare form of stomach cancer. She'd been bumping along just fine and suddenly just started throwing up blood, last week.

He was commenting that since they heard the news only days ago, they've been in a state of anesthetized anguish. They haven't even been able to bring themselves to tell their kids yet, because they don't want to ruin their holidays. Who knows if this Christmas may be her last? They are in a holding pattern, a perpetual "inhale," and nothing else matters, but getting the wife the care and comfort she needs.

My mom died, almost 20 years ago, after spending HER last Christmas with us. We never knew at the time that her body was being ravaged by lung cancer. To this day, I miss her dreadfully and wish I had appreciated her more, while she was still with us. There has never been another Christmas in my life to compare with my Mom's. My family was split and scattered and we've honestly never recovered. She always made it so special. She WAS Christmas.

Not to minimize the struggles that many of us face, but we aren't being handed a cancer diagnosis. We aren't losing our wives, our mothers, our children or our friends. We never know who among us may be suffering from something so much worse than BFS.

There is nothing on this earth that takes precedence above loving each other, and showing forth kindness. How blessed we truly are. There is so much hate, violence and cruelty in the world. May we choose to be light, and not darkness, in someone's most desperate day.

My prayers and love go out to us all.
Blessings and Peace, this holiday season.
Sue
