I was wondering if a few of you wouldn't mind answering some possibly related questions about your health with regard to BFS. I am curious to see if there might be a common thread.

1. Did you notice "muscular" pain or fatigue prior to the twitching? Just pain that could be explained, i.e., leg pain from a former break; neck & back pain from 2 auto accidents; have always felt some fatigue. Also suffered severe migraines.
2. Did you have an illness prior to the first event? I "passed out". Doctors felt it was from stress, lack of sleep, and dehydration, (long stressful cross country trip). Never "felt the same" after that and symptoms started shortly thereafter.
3. Had you had any recent surgery? No
4. Had you over used the muscles in the affected area prior to the twitching? No
5. Do any of you suffer from: IBS, reflux, esophagitis, heartburn, crohns disease/celiac disease? Yes
6. If so, do you take any medication for the above? Nexium
7. Females - are you on or have you been on any hormone replacement therapy or oral contraceptives for an extended period of time. Yes
8. Females - do you notice if your symptoms become worse or more pronounced prior to your period/menses? Hard to say, but definitely the migraines are more intense---not sure if they'e a part of BFS or not.
9. Does anyone in your immediate family suffer from an autoimmune disorder? (severe allergies/asthma, MS, Lupes, Myasthenia Gravas, Rheumatoid arthritis etc) Yes, 3 relatives with RA, 1 with MS
10. Do you suffer from allergies or any other minor autoimmune disorder? Yes, allergies
As a physician, I am curious to see if there is any correlation. There is no pressure on answering this but I would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks,
Best wishes,
Kit

1. Did you notice "muscular" pain or fatigue prior to the twitching? A little, I have a lower back issue which I think or thought was the cause. It will require fusing the last 2 vertebrate and tailbone together
2. Did you have an illness prior to the first event? no
3. Had you had any recent surgery? no
4. Had you over used the muscles in the affected area prior to the twitching? no
5. Do any of you suffer from: IBS, reflux, esophagitis, heartburn, crohns disease/celiac disease? reflux
6. If so, do you take any medication for the above? yes, several prescriptions for the past 15 yrs. I switched from nexium to omeprazole a couple of months before the twitching started. Interestingly enough, I saw a post by someone from a couple of years ago that said he stopped taking this med and his symptoms dropped down next to nothing. He started taking it again, and symptoms got worse. Placebo affect? Who knows. I didnt take mine yesterday to test this theory, and my symptoms were significantly milder when I woke up this morning. I'll see if there actually is any difference over the next few days.
7. Females - are you on or have you been on any hormone replacement therapy or oral contraceptives for an extended period of time.
8. Females - do you notice if your symptoms become worse or more pronounced prior to your period/menses?
9. Does anyone in your immediate family suffer from an autoimmune disorder? (severe allergies/asthma, MS, Lupes, Myasthenia Gravas, Rheumatoid arthritis etc) no
10. Do you suffer from allergies or any other minor autoimmune disorder?
I dont know. My ana titer was 320 and sediment fate was 16. Nuero said all other antibody test were normal (I had 10 to 20 different antibody test done, along with all the other ones from the specialist)

1. Did you notice "muscular" pain or fatigue prior to the twitching?
If you mean onset of twitching, YES! My calves ached terribly for about 10 days. When that subsided, they started "bubbling"
2. Did you have an illness prior to the first event?
I had cellulitis in my upper thigh 1 month prior. It was treated as MRSA (as a precaution) and I took 2 antibiotics for treatment.
3. Had you had any recent surgery?
no
4. Had you over used the muscles in the affected area prior to the twitching?
Again, if you mean onset of twitching, then yes. I had been spinning regularly for 1 year, quit abruptly, pain in calves, then twitching.
5. Do any of you suffer from: IBS, reflux, esophagitis, heartburn, crohns disease/celiac disease?
Diverticulitis?
6. If so, do you take any medication for the above?
No
7. Females - are you on or have you been on any hormone replacement therapy or oral contraceptives for an extended period of time.
No
8. Females - do you notice if your symptoms become worse or more pronounced prior to your period/menses?
no
9. Does anyone in your immediate family suffer from an autoimmune disorder? (severe allergies/asthma, MS, Lupes, Myasthenia Gravas, Rheumatoid arthritis etc)
Mother - Psoriasis
10. Do you suffer from allergies or any other minor autoimmune disorder?
None known. Very sensitive to cleaning chemicals, fumes.
