False Positive Blood Test

When I was in high school I had a general physical done with bloodwork. After the physical the GP called me and said by bloodwork tested positive for syphillis. I told him this was IMPOSSIBLE and they did another more extensive test for the disease. The second test came back negative and at that time the GP told me he had only seen this one other time in his career. The doctor said the other patient went on to develop severe rheumatoid arthritis. Since rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease and BFS might have an autoimmune condition I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience? I am 43 now so this was over 20 years ago. I still don't know why a syphillis test was included in a general physical back then but it was with him.

Thanks,

Taylor
