strong twitches wake me up at night

Postby nrwtwitcher on March 25th, 2014, 1:47 pm

Hi, now I am twitching since 6 month. I am twitching all over my body. Calves and feets 24/7, tights, arms.... and also I have lots of cramps in my feets and toes. During the 6 month I had a time from 3 weeks where my twitches calms down. Maybe because of a quinine medicine (LImptar). But since 3 weeks I have more and more strong twitches every second in my legs and feet, sometimes in my arms. They are so strong, that I can feel them and see them also. Extremly strong... Since one week I cannot sleep well. I wake up often by night, because my legs and feet twitches and began to cramp... I am so anxious now. Is there anyone who has made such an experience??? Please answer me, I am so unsure now, if this is still bfs... I had a clean emg in december and a second clear emg for 2 weeks. But my symptoms progressed now, every day it becomes more worse... Thank you all for reading and answering. Thanks a lot

Hi,
must say that your symptomes are not srange or unique.
it is typical for BFS to have twitches which are felt and seen, (and vice versa too by the way). it is very typical to have cramps, especially in feet and toes. Night cramps are also typical.
Check if you take enough water per day. Anxious people usually lost a lot of water with urine due to increased excretion. You may not feel thirsty but still have disbalances in electorlytes causing cramps
Take magnesium complex. Better something strong like Magne B6 forte (for usual supplements you need 6 to 8 pills per day, for forte formulation 1 to 3).
Find and take sleeping pills which are adequate for you - it may be valeriana, ambien, melatonine (check contraindications), whatever. Restore your sleep becasue lack of sleep aggravates your conditions.

it IS STILL A BFS IN ITS TYPICAL FORM, believe me. with 2 clean EMG really nothing to worry about 'progression' into something else, it is just BFS in its course, I had the same. I was cramping even by moving toes. It will go away eventually.

Quinine is ambigious medicine, and after certain persiod of time it may collect in your tissues causing exagerration of twhiches abd even craps and spasms instead of muscle realxation (as it acts in low dosage). Check if you do not overdose or take the quinine drug for longer than prescribed.

Dear Yulia, thank you for your answer. I have read that the most of the people with bfs in this forum CAN sleep by night. They do`nt feel their twitches during the night... but my twitches are so extremely strong that I wake up... I am so unlucky....

probably your sleep is just not so strong.
Sleep disorders are frequent guests in BFS, they feed it and are fed by BFS in a kind of vicious circle.
so stepping out from that circle is not only possible but necessary. talk to your GP about your sleep. maybe you will need a sleep study, who knows. But evetually all people who manage toget good 6 hours of sleep minuimum, are significantly recovering fom BSF symptomes.

Hi there. I lots of "sleep" related issues. In fact that is when my BFS mostly manifest. I have episodes of internal tremoring.shaking, and lots of myoclonic jerking episodes. I don't feel the twitching so much as those other things, but believe me those are worse! Im only a few months in as well. I feel like every day brings a new symptom and Im still not "convinced" that nothing is wrong with me, waiting for the other shoe to drop. I think only time will calm us down. And yes I have cramping too, although I have to say I have been doing a little better with that lately. But it comes and goes in cycles.

Hi together. I have had the worst night ever. The twitching gets worse from day to day. Today I go to the neuro... My feeling is bad, extremely bad.... Now I am twitching every second (100 x p. sec.) in my feet, legs and my left arm... I have slept ca. 4 hours... and now I am in panic and I am crying the whole time

My friend, I see you are definitely in a very bad emotional condition (becasue at 100 timer per second frequency you hardly can notice any separate twitches at all, so I think I should take it as just an evidence that you feel very bad about your twitching regardless to its actual intensity), and I hope your visit to doctor can help you to get more relief.
A kind of trap in BFS is that there is significant mood disorder part in it, changing perception and self-perception, for which neuros can do nothing becasue this is a field for pshycologists and psychiatrists. But becasue of twitching symptom we usually go to the wrong doctor, and that delays healing to many of us...

Hi all... I was by a neuro today. He is a musculär specialist at a hospital. He made an emg from one of my extreme fasciculations on my calve. A clinical examination too. He said that my twitches are only fasciculations and not pathological. He also mentioned that I do not need an emg furthermore. He is sure, that there ist nothing doubious. Now I feel a littl.e bit better. Thank you all for reading. Sorry for my bad english...
