Bulging veins in left calf, two dents...twitching everywhere

Hi All-

Well I find it ironic that I am back here again. I have had fasiculations for about 9 years now and have been on this board posting since 2006 I think. So my worry now is my left calf. My veins are bulging only in it, not on the right calf. I am seeing a big dent when I flex my calf between the large back muscle and the middle muscle when viewed from the front. I mean about a 1.5" dent. I saw a guy my age at a local store with ALS and I'm in total freakout mode. I had a clinical a few weeks back and neuro did all the strength tests. He said "we can continue following you clinically but I don't see any need to hunt for ALS with more EMGS". I have had several but its been maybe 4 years. I'm just in this horrible place now doing self exams, twitching in my legs like crazy and I'm freaked out. You would think after all this time I would worry less, but lately no. I am scared like back when this started again. Argh....I hate this!!

you have seen a person of your age with ALS and your fears had ramped up/ Quite expected outcome, I think, for us. We had recently a new fellow who had seen an epi attack and started to fear of epilepsy (interpreting fasciulations as possible epi signs). So it is natural for us to transfer fearful conditions we see in the neighbourhood to our own person and then get crazy from the fears.

I only can say that should you have such dents and vein bulged on your shin not becasue of the age, but due to atrophy, hardly you can flex the leg in order to check it. Venous valves disfunction causing the veing to stretch out and buldge could be unilateral (I have this too for example), and if your veins look more prominents, it may be worth to see a vessel specialist which on my point of view is more justified than to decide you may have prominent leg muscle atrophy without more or less clear weakness, especially after 9 years of twitching.

Sorry to hear you're having a bad relapse. I know I've been there before, even after I swore that I never would freak out again.
As for the dents, I too have them on my calves. Noticeable ones, too. I think its from maybe old injuries that dented the muscle or something. Also, what Yulia said regarding the veins is worth looking into, so perhaps you should schedule another appointment to address that. In the meanwhile remember that you've been twitching for 9 years now, and you have no real weakness to complain of. Self testing will only make you imagine or distort your perspective on this, which I know as a vet you are already aware of.

Sean - I don't know if this helps, but I have a dent in my calf where I had a twitch for 8 months. Also, at the onset of this my feet cramped horribly and my veins bulged in my feet - unbelievably so. I went to the doctor for this before I even noticed the twitching. This was now almost 1.5 years ago. You're fine!
