Neuro tomorrow

They called this morning and had an appointment open up at 10 am to see the ALS specialist. I am so relieved and nervous at the same time. I thought it would takes weeks to see a neuro. Any advice on what to expect?

That is very quick. I would expect a clinical exam and expert opinions. They may decide on nerve or EMG test right then and there. Try to prepare a list of questions in advance, including history and meds. Also, good luck and please post what happens!

Well the Neuro exam went fine. no clincial weakness, no babinski/hoffman/jawjerk, my knee reflexes were hella brisk both sides but wasn't concerned. The neuro wants to do the emg next week it looks like. He said " your case does warrant looking into". I probably read to much into that statement but he seems very passionate about ALS. Oh and he tried to get the twitches to show up, but not once did i twitch while he was doing the exam

Hi glad to hear it went fine.

May I ask the reasons he wanted an EMG and "looking into"?

Or what he diagnosed you with or noted?

I didn't see what he noted. He said everything on the clinical looked normal. I suppose the twitching and constant weak feeling in all my limbs was why he said the emg was necessary and warranted looking into

Ok, I see. He's probably just being thorough. Keep us posted after your EMG!

Also, I think it happens to many of us that when we are at the neuro and we need to show we are twitching like crazy, that is when they decide to be silent. What games they play with us!!!! But I take that as a proven reason to not worry about sinister stuff, because they wouldn't stop for a doctor visit. Mine will also stop when I take a hot bath or I am in a sauna. (for the most part). But they'll start right back up again shortly thereafter.

Yes he was very thorough, which I can appreciate because I don't want a half hazard exam

Today, Thursday?

It is nerve wracking, but you'll pull through. It only takes a few minutes. Please let us know what happens! But I think you will be just fine :)

Yeah today at 3:30. I'm such a wreck my knee reflex shot out and it scared me but he did say he sees this in younger, anxious patients and he he was cautiously optomistic, but I'm just so scared
