A doctor's story...

Postby RexM on April 15th, 2004, 4:21 pm

This may come under the category of "hearsay", but I consider the source to be "unimpeachable".
My wife had lunch yesterday with a close friend whose husband is a retired, and very distinguished, cardiologist. When she told her friend about my symptoms, ALS anxiety and discovery of BFS, her friend said "Oh my God, the same thing happened to my husband five years ago!" Apparently, this doctor started twitching, did some preliminary research, and immediately assumed he had ALS. He started making "final plans" even as he was making an appointment with a neurologist. His neuro diagnosed the BFS, and until then he'd never heard of it [I doubt many of us are surprised!].
The good news? After four years, his BFS symptoms completely cleared up.
Is it any wonder that we lay people freak out?
