Question about Zyrtec

Postby Glenn on January 8th, 2003, 12:40 pm

I wonder why you think it was an allergic reaction to Zyrtec. Was this suggested by the doctor? I have seen a mention of this before but no specific data.

A Neurologist at USC told me a few years back that a number of patients like me had received immune therapy for allergies. He hadn't yet documented the correlation. Had you been treated for allergies?

Question about Zyrtec

Postby hojo on January 31st, 2003, 9:02 am

Yes I have been tested for 65 of the most common allergens found in Ohio related to trees, grass, dander, etc. These symptoms started a week after a severe drug reaction to Zyrtec. I stopped taking the medication and the hives under my arms immediately went away. Unfortunately, that same week I also immediately developed severe widespread muscle and nerve pain throughout my entire body, head to toe. It was/is unbearable. There is NO DOUBT in my mind that Zyrtec caused this, however I would never medically be able to prove it since I've seen nearly 15 doctors and specialists and they've never heard of such a thing.

It's been a year and a half since this started. I typically go about 4 weeks feeling fairly normal (mild symptoms) and they I endure a week of pure hell (severe widespread pain and twitching), its nearly incapacitating.

What exactly is a "medical investigator?" I've actually never heard of such a person before.

Thanks.

Immune therapy for allergies

Postby osbormd on February 4th, 2003, 8:57 am

That's an interesting thought... I had been taking immunotherapy for allergies for about 1.5 years and then stopped right before my twitching started. Maybe a coincidence?
