The Chairman of the Institute for Functional Medicine, Dr. Mark Hyman, MD remarks in his latest book The Blood Sugar Solution (affiliate, non-affiliate): ”High doses of fructose have been proven to literally punch holes in the intestinal lining, allowing nasty by-products of toxic gut bacteria and partially digested food proteins to enter your bloodstream and trigger inflammation. Naturally occurring fructose in fruit is part of a complex web of nutrients and fiber and doesn’t exhibit the same biological effects as the high fructose found in corn sugar.“

Hm... a 'functional medicine' sounds suspicious for me.

Did he stated how much of fructose one should eat (he says HIGH DOSES) to get that permeation increased so much?

Moreover, as a chemist I doubt a bit what he says because high osmolaltiy solutions (like high doses of fructose syrip) should cause rather permeation into guts, not outside, because osmosis (a process due to which all absorption from the guts occurs) is a process of equalizing of concentrations, so more concentrated solution is ususlly tends to be dissolved with body liquids (that is why sucrous substances are used as stool smoothing agents, like Dufalak etc.). I do not know if they can cause inflammation but they would definitely cause you diarroea due to huge ingress of water into guts.

Fructose may make holes in the guts membranes, but osmotic pressure would draw water from blood stream to guts to dilute fructose syrip, not allowing anything to enter bloodstream. Reverse prosess occurs only in the kidneys where high blood pressure is a driver and membranes are quite specific.
