zoloft and muscle twitches

Hi,
My doctor put me on 75mg of Zoloft a day because of my anxiety and fear of having ***.
Its been 1 month.
I already had some muscle twitches before going on the medication but now its gotten so much worst. Its always on my left leg right around the knee. Also in my calves. Its been non-stop for about 2 weeks now.
Now , its starting on my right leg too.
Has anybody else had this experience and is it something I should worry about?

RNS is generally when a neuromuscular junction disorder is suspected.

The most important thing is that RNS has been proven to be of diagnostic utilitiy in patients with BFS, suggesting its origin is in excitability of peripheral nerve. I will post a link to an article as soon as I find it - I read it years ago.

enzoli, Matt describes that in his post: Repetitive nerve stimulation. The article I send the link to used this technique to prove (or at least support) the hypothesis that BFS originates in the peripheral nerve.

I've heard these type of meds can cause twitching. My dr just increased zoloft to 50 from 25. It's doing nothing for my anxiety. Is 75 helping?

it is expected to have quite dramatic invrease of twitching when being on SSRI (not always but for some of us).

After finishing of course your twitches are supposed to subside significantly. The purpose of treatment is to get your critical thinking back, not decrease your twitches. And SSRI usually do this job only - I mean they help to reduce anxiety level regardless to twitching itself. it just means the drugs are working in fact.

It has helped a little with the intensity of the anxiety. I still am terrified of my neuro appointment next week but it feels as though the intensity of the anxiety decreased. My doctor started me on 25mg for 1 week , then 50mg, for another week and now I have been on 75mg for 3 weeks. The 25-50 mg did nothing for me. Have your twitches increased since you started the Zoloft ?

No they haven't. I had to stay on 25 for a month and he's given me a 60 day supply of 50mg. I'll give it a couple of weeks but if I feel no better I'll ask to increase. I don't want to have to supplement with Xanax anymore. I hate taking any if this. Good luck with your appt, it looks like you're a long time twitcher so you shouldn't have anything to worry about!

I hate taking any medication too but at this point I have no choice. I am like a walking ghost and have lost 13 pounds. I also take 1 mg of Ativan to help me fall asleep. I hope to first of all not have the scary disease we all fear and to one day be off the meds.

I'm right with you there. And by the way, I read your past posts regarding the knee pain and previous back issues. There is no way you have ***! It does not fit at all. I know you will worry anyway but really, you shouldn't.

Wow, thank you. Its exactly what I need to hear. You saying that has a better affect than the 75mg of Zoloft !

When I was on Zoloft in July and August, my twitches went nuts. My GP took me off all SSRIs because of what they were doing to me - making me worse. As for those who say that SSRIs are not getting rid of the anxiety - my GP explained it to me like this - She took as piece of paper out and drew a long wavy line on it. The "peaks" of the wave were high anxiety points, the low points were low anxiety. She then drew a straight line about 1/3 of the way down from the "peak" of the waves, straight through the wavy line. She then told me that SSRIs do not get rid of anxiety - that's impossible with a medication unless you want to be a zombie. What reasonable dosages of SSRIs do is flatten the peaks so you get your critical thinking back. They were working for me on my anxiety, but the side effects with me were not worth it.
