Question For Foot Twitchers/Buzzers (MS & ALS fear)

Those of you who have twitching/buzzing/vibrating in the bottom of your foot, can you describe it? I'm having a hard time deciding what exactly is happening in the bottom of my left foot. It's on the outside of the foot. It's almost like a buzzing with a twitch mixed in it's very odd. I've never seen it happen because it's very quick and every time I watch my foot to see if I can observe it, it doesn't happen!

I'm in the midst of a SEVERE *** fear. I've had very very bad anxiety for 2 months straight every single day. Not many minutes go by at a time where I'm not afraid of or thinking about *** or MS. Sometimes I'll have an odd twitch here or there. It actually started out in my arm a few days after very heavy exercise of my triceps. Then I googled and ever since then this has spread. But it seems to now have localized in this left foot. When my fear shifted to MS, I had more sensory symptoms after googling those. But now that the *** fear is back the foot twitching is too.

I must add that 3 days a week I'm out running routes on the football field in cleats. My foot is sore afterwards because I line up on the left side so my left foot is the one I chafe direction with. Could this be related? Even on the days that I'm not on the field, the foot twitching/buzzing happens though...

I saw my Dr. and he gave me a very minimal neurological exam (grip my fingers, resist me pushing down, follow my finger, etc.) he never tested my reflexes though except for my pupillary reflex.

I'm 16 by the way and I know what you're all going to say "YOU CANT GET ALS!" But I've heard the horror stories and that's enough to drive me nuts.

You got that right, that is what we will say. Really, you must get control of the anxiety before it ruins your life, and you have a long one ahead of you! It is a state of anxiety that most often causes this condition, specifically the kind you describe - totally stressed every minute for two months straight. Get a therapist and hit this anxiety with everything you have - you owe it to yourself to place as much energy into overcoming this anxiety as you have into this worry. Find a therapist who knows about health anxiety. That is - practice anxiety reduction every minute for two months straight. Then see how much better you feel!

I have not read all of your story but based on the symptoms: Visit a neurologists, let him do an EMG and trust the results.

I do not think this is MS/ALS but do not listen to those who say you do not an EMG. You do. You could have sensory or sensory motor neuropathy which is quite common because of the nerve pathways in legs. Nothing to worry about but it needs to be diagnosed.

I can assure you - nothing you mention resembles any serious disorder. My guess is slight sensomotoric polyneuropathy (if more nerves are involved). There is no reason to be scared because this is very common problem.

Do you think I could be causing my symptoms by stress/anxiousness? When my ALS fear shifted to MS and I googled those symptoms, that's when I had the tingling and ticklish feeling in my foot and very lower back. Once it shifted back to ALS, my sensory symptoms have vanished. I've been stressing every minute of every day for 2 1/2 months worrying about everything from N. Fowleri to HIV to ALS. Could this be causing all of this?

I also started spring training for football right before all of this started. We lift heavy weights 2 days a week and I'm on the field running routes 3 days a week. On the outside days my foot twitching is worse and my foot hurts more. The foot fascics do happen on days where I don't aggravate it though. I do have a knot in my left glute muscle that I notice.

Another thing that may help - when I stretch with my leg straight out, and touch my toes I get a very tight sensation in my left glute/lower back as though I need to stretch it more.
