Gag reflex?

Postby chad23 on April 16th, 2004, 7:53 am

I went and saw the ENT yesterday and they told me I had a severe gag reflex when they did the throat scope(laryngoscopy or something like that). So I looked it up and lo and behold, some ALS patients present that.

I am freaking out again. I think I have always had that though, but I am not sure. I don't gag at the dentist's office(was just there like 2 weeks ago) but I did yesterday with that thing down my throat, even with it "numbed" a bit.

Can anxiety make that gag reflex worse? The more I kept thinking about it, the worse it was.

Anyone else have this?

chad,

I thought that als caused decreased gag reflex??????? But i'm not an als expert, and don't want to be. To answer answer you second question, I think anxiety can absolutely make anything worse, including gag reflex.

Good luck,
Gary
