Those dreaded finger twitches

Hi, its been a long time since i have posted here. I have been dx with bfs..I have pretty much come to terms with this thing....i used to get alot of aches along with the twitching and burning and tingling sensations. That, (and i say this cautiously) has gone away for awhile...but the finger twitching has come back...well they would always do a quick second twitch where my finger would just like jump but the ones i am talking about are the wiggle ones where your finger moves and holds or just wiggles back and forth....i can't help but thing something else is going on...i have heard of the michael J. Fox finger twitch and just keep thinking about it.....IT DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!!
I have had bfs for 15 months now...i would have to say i have gotten better about the anxiety over it and my symptoms have calmed down alot...some have disappeared (again cautious :) )
But can i hear from the finger twitchers out i normal, as far a bfs goes anyway....
Thanks and please tell me why i don't have what MJF has..

Joanne, we all just had a discussion in one of the recent threads about Parkinson's and how Michael J Fox's symptoms started and how BFS twitches, even the wiggling finger twitches are totally different than Parkinson's. I'm not sure exactly which thread it was in but it was only this last week, so look through a few and you'll find many posts on that same subject. Have a good one and hang in there :-)

There is another thread with this topic...because I wrote a message several weeks ago just like yours! The only difference is that I haven't had BFS for 15 months (only 3) but the finger twitches really can be scary, I know. I happen to have it in my pointer finger on the right hand and it sometimes can make writing a bit difficult. Do you have it in more than one finger?

We have come to the conclusion here that it is probably just related to BFS, however, I am off to see a neurologist tomorrow and you can be sure that I will be mentioning to him the finger twitches.

Take care,

David, let us know what the neuro says about the finger twitches, OK? It's an ongoing issue for me, too.

The neurologist did not say much about the finger twitch or the calf twitches except that he has scheduled me for an EMG in 2 weeks. He really doesn't know why it's happening but is going to try to figure out if there is some cause. He did give me a prescription for something but I haven't brought it into the pharmacy yet. It's like Klonopin I think but a lot less potent from what he told me. He may also schedule some blood work just to make sure all is well.

Hopefully it all works out.

Sorry I don't have better answers for you regarding the twitching finger, but he really did not know why it was happening.

I asked about MRIs (i had one done on my lumbar spine several months ago) but he didn't think that it was necessary at this point.

I'll let you know more as things develop.

I'll keep you posted although, as usual, I don't have great expectations for learning anything new! That said, I will feel better after I have the EMG done (assuming everything is ok).

THanks for your reply, I have gotten these twitches in other fingers, but they usually don't happen at the same time..of course they will now :D
My hands in general never feel quite right...another thing that happens is if i tighten my hand and release one or more of my finger will jump....why do i do this????? just to drive myself crazy and see if it still happens....

I will go back to the neuro soon for a year check up...i went last year in December at JOhn Hopkins to the Als specialist their....i will ask him about it and see what he says.....i did ask him at my first check up with him but my fingers were just kind of jumping then and not wiggling....i don't know if it makes a difference but he did not think much of it and stated it was part of this bcfs....but i get my doubts when the wiggles come and the twitch and holds happen.
Thanks again.

Please make sure to let us know what happens at your follow up visit. I'm curious to know what your doctor says about the finger twitches.

P.S. We all do the same thing that you do in regard to "making the twitch happen" because we hope that the next time we do it the twitch won't occur. :)
