Really bad after stretching...repeatable

Postby TwitchyDoc on April 28th, 2011, 10:22 am

Well I am kinda nervous as everytime I strongly flex (open wide and push, just stretch strongly) my arms, they go like crazy along with my shoulders. I know some of us do report twitching after stretching, but to me it seems its getting worse. Anyone?

stretching in the morning was really bad for me at first. It would bring on many many twtitches and spasms, really strong ones.

Opposing thumb and index finger resulting in flexion of the thenar muscles then relaxing will often result in a few twitches in thenar muscle and flexion/extension of ankle will often result in calf twitches

Seems normal amongst BFS'ers

zzzzzzz... tell me something new and groundbreaking, will ya. Twitching after stretching is common. Ive had it for years... You need to believe the benign diagnosis. You are a doc for G.. sake...

Are you holding your breath while stretching? It is a common mistake and often causes cramps, etc.

Oh there was a misunderstanding. I do not mean stretching - doing an excercise.

I mean simple stretching of my arm muscles (pushing it back firmly) will produce twitching around the shoulders etc.

Stretching, coughing, sneezing, etc... all make my muscles twitch. I often wonder why this happens.

Well said Leslie I just had a hot spot in my back and abdomen after a particularly hard sneeze which lasted on and off for a few days so any movement, stretch or sneeze is fair game for bfs!

I think its getting worse... Last days nearly ANY movement (scratch my head) produces fasciculations in my biceps or tripces...has anyone similiar experience?

Yes, and that is the primary cause for my twitching. I would say 80% of my twitching comes on like that. I believe it is the muscle having issues with going back to a relaxed state. Even when you stretch you are tightening muscles, those muscles then have trouble relaxing. I think it goes back to the chemicals being released into your body during stress and anxiety. You body ends up on "High Alert." Ready to react quickly. I would be willing to get most people on here have these types. And the sneezing one is probably 100%. I don't know any bfsers who don't twitch after sneezing.

anxietysucks: thanks for your answer! I do think the same, I even have truly delayed muscle relaxation when I e.g. push my wrist down to my arm with all power, once I release it twitches, its like cramp but non painful. So happy I am not alone with that :)
